Matt Ronan joined the team at the centre in May 2009 in the role of Safe Areas Co-ordinator after retiring from Fife Constabulary where he had been involved with the Safe Town Centre’s Initiative in Glenrothes.

Varrie joined the SBCC as Administrative Assistant in February 2009. Prior to this, Varrie worked as a Purchase Ledger Clerk for Gladedale Group based in Stirling.

Angela began her new role with the Association of Scottish Neighbourhood Watches in March 2009. Prior to this, Angela worked as a Project Manager for Prudential PLC based in Stirling.

Alan joined the SBCC in July 2003, following a career, spanning 30 years in with the Royal Mail Group. Formerly employed as Regional Sales Manager for Scotland, Alan has extensive experience in marketing and general management.

Inspector Gary Ritchie was appointed to the role of Assistant Director in January 2010. A serving Officer with Lothian and Borders Police, Gary has 13 years experience in the Police Service, with expertise in crime prevention and was seconded for a period to Crimestoppers Scotland as Call Centre Manager.

Lyndsay Kean, our first Events Coordinator, joined the team in April 2007. Lyndsay is a graduate of Strathclyde University and has a degree in Hotel and Hospitality Management. She has 18 months experience of events management with the Scottish Further Education Unit based in Stirling.

George joined the team in June 2006 after serving 30 years with Strathclyde Police, mainly involved in crime investigation and crime prevention.

Willie Armstrong joined the team in June 2003, following 30 years experience with Strathclyde Police. and having been involved in the establishment of the Glasgow Safe City Centre Initiative. Willie's role is to oversee the co-ordination of the Scottish Safe City Centres Initiative.

Tom McDougall was appointed into the new role of National Safe Towns Co-ordinator on 30 August 2004, following his retirement as Police Inspector with Central Scotland Police. Tom has over 28 years experience as a serving Police Officer.

Tom Porter took up post in early March 2008.Tom retired after 32 years in the Police service, during his career he served in a variety of posts including: operational Policing, C.I.D, training, personnel and latterly the Scottish Crime and Drug Enforcement Agency where he was responsible for the prevention and disruption of serious organised crime.

Lisa Toon

Prior to joining the Association of Neighbourhood Watches as their National Development Officer, Lisa spent two and a half years working for the Scottish Court Service as a Training and Development Officer based in Edinburgh. Before that, she worked briefly for a Children’s Charity and started her working life as a Training Co-ordinator in an Asda Distribution Centre in Grangemouth. Lisa studied Marketing at Strathclyde University and then completed a Masters in Information Technology at Stirling University.

We would like to inform our members that, as of midnight, Thursday 2 September 2010, Retailers Against Crime (RAC) demerged from the Scottish Business Crime Centre. As of today RAC Ltd will continue as a separate legal entity and we wish them well in the years ahead. Alan Dobie, Executive Director, SBCC.

The Office of Fair Trading is warning people that the summer is an opportune time for rogue traders. Last year, advice service Consumer Direct received more than 5,300 complaints about traders offering home maintenance work on the doorstep, a 16 per cent rise from the previous year, with complaints peaking in the summer months from July through to the autumn. Supported by several high profile stars, including Esther Rantzen, the OFT is driving an awareness campaign urging householders to be cautious and take time to think about people who call at the door. The campaign is to help people recognise the warning signs. Full details of the campaign can be found on our 'Latest News' page.
